Defining and Addressing a Community’s Open Space Needs

Tighe & Bond provided master planning services to the Town of Winchendon, preparing and updating the Town’s 2007 and 2015 Open Space and Recreation Plans. Tighe & Bond researched the background for the community setting, environmental and cultural resources, and a detailed inventory of open space and recreational resources.

Public outreach included numerous meetings with municipal officials and the Open Space and Recreation Plan Committee, two public forums, and a survey to identify community needs. This information was used to develop goals and a five-year action plan for achieving the Open Space and Recreation goals. The plan was approved by the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services.

In 2015, Winchendon and Tighe & Bond worked to update the 2007 Plan. The background sections were reviewed and updated as needed and updated mapping was developed. The public process included meetings with municipal staff and an advisory committee, a survey, and a public forum. The input received from the public was incorporated into revised goals and an action plan to guide future planning.

In addition to the Open Space and Recreation Plan, Tighe & Bond helped to develop the Town’s Ingleside Master Plan, served as a peer reviewer for the Planning Board, Zoning Board, and the Conservation Commission, and is serving as the on-call engineer for the Town’s Department of Public Works.
