Permitting Assistance Clears the Way for Improved Boat Ramp

Tighe & Bond (work performed as Coastal Engineering Co. prior to acquisition) is working with the Town of Weymouth, MA, providing professional engineering services required for filing permit applications for maintenance dredging of the boat launch ramp channel in Back River in North Weymouth.

Permits are being obtained for the following agencies:

  • Town of Weymouth Shellfish Advisory Committee
  • Town of Weymouth Waterways Advisory Committee
  • Town of Weymouth Harbormaster
  • Town of Weymouth Conservation Commission – Notice of Intent
  • Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA)
  • Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and 401 Water Quality Department – Combined Chapter 91 licensing
  • Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE)
  • Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management (MA CZM)

Engineering services related to the permit applications include a hydrographic and topographic survey of the proposed maintenance dredge area and preparation of an existing conditions plan. Core sediment samples were collected within the dredge area to determine the grain size distribution of the sediment and compatibility for disposal. Design of the maintenance dredge footprint, volume calculations, and a proposed site plan were created to accompany permit applications.

Once complete, the dredging project will give boaters in the Town of Weymouth a safer point of access to the Back River.
