Unique Treatment Technologies Provide Improved Wastewater Treatment
The Town of Orleans retained Tighe & Bond to act as the Town’s Owner’s Project Manager for the design and construction phases of their $47M sewer and treatment facility construction project.
Our work on this project has guided the Town and the design team toward the development of a 340,000-gallon-per-day sequencing batch reactor treatment plant and over 42,000 LF of collection system piping. The proposed system also utilizes a series of wick wells for the discharge of treated effluent to the ground. This is a relatively novel discharge system for the region, and it required extensive modeling and study prior to regulatory approval.
Our team has also provided input on several novel treatment technologies the Town is deploying, including permeable reactive barriers and aquaculture. Through this work, we have come to recognize the value of these technologies as a cost-effective way of meeting nutrient management goals in less densely developed areas where traditional sewers are not cost-effective.
