Preserving a Coastal Landmark Through Integrated Engineering

The Town of Edgartown sought to rehabilitate its historic lighthouse while preserving its architectural character and coastal setting. Our firm led a multidisciplinary team of structural engineers, wetland scientists, and hazardous building material specialists, working with preservation architects from Spencer Preservation Group.

The team evaluated the cast-iron tower, addressed hazardous materials, and developed a plan to protect shorebird habitat during construction. For its rehabilitation, our team created a digital twin of the historic structure, sandblasted and repainted the exterior, repaired cast-iron panels, and restored wooden windows, combining structural repairs with historically sensitive design.

The completed restoration returned the lighthouse to public use, preserving a community landmark and its continued role as a navigational aid for mariners.
