Merrymount Park is Quincy’s premier recreational area and is home to 80 acres of sports fields and community space. Tighe & Bond is designing a replacement bridge on Merrymount Parkway (Route 3A) which will serve as one of the main entrances for the park. The bridge will span over Blacks Creek, a tidal creek that drains to Quincy Bay.
The project includes the full replacement of the existing twin-barrel culvert. Tighe & Bond is working with an architecture firm to enhance the visual elements of the new bridge and surrounding roadway. Route 3A is a major highway for the City of Quincy and a frequent route for trucks. Tighe & Bond is developing traffic maintenance and staging plans alongside an accelerated bridge construction schedule to limit closures and disruption to traffic. The new bridge will also add one traffic lane, two bike lanes, and improved sidewalks.
In addition to bridge design, Tighe & Bond is taking advantage of in-house expertise in geotechnical evaluation, civil/highway design, hydraulic design, environmental evaluation, visualization, permitting, and cost estimates for the project. The work includes extensive hydrology models, wetlands delineation and protection, underground explorations, and utility management.
