Designing a Series of Garden Rooms and Meandering Paths

Telford Path at West Laurel Hill Cemetery is Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio’s second construction project at Philadelphia’s premiere historic cemetery. This project is the result of a four-year-long working relationship with the cemetery, where Halvorson has been assisting in the design of their remaining lots for memorialization.

Located near the cemetery’s main entrance, Telford Path is part of a larger entry precinct plan that focuses on creating a series of appealing garden rooms and meandering paths for use by cemetery visitors and the community.

The design features groups of trees, shrubs and ground covers arranged along a hillside adjacent to their entry gates. Halvorson’s plan incorporates pre-existing cemetery lots into a seamless whole, offering additional burial, scattering and cremation space.
