Comprehensive Environmental Services for Underground Line
To improve reliability and address the growing need for electricity in the Greater Boston region, Eversource proposed a new 7.7-mile 115-kV underground electric transmission line between their existing Woburn Substation in Woburn/Winchester and Mystic Substation in Boston/Everett, Massachusetts.
The new line crossed six communities: Woburn, Winchester, Medford, Somerville, Boston (Charlestown), and Everett. Trenchless construction methods were necessary at three key locations along the project route: Wedgemere Commuter Rail Station in Winchester, Mystic River Crossing in Medford, and the MBTA crossing at Sullivan Square in Somerville.
Tighe & Bond supported the project through Energy Facility Siting Board (EFSB) and Department of Public Utilities petitions, expert witness testimony, environmental permitting, soil and groundwater pre-characterization, Licensed Site Professional reporting, dewatering discharge permitting and monitoring, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, and habitat restoration design for site restoration.
