Two Structural Engineering Projects Win Preservation Massachusetts Awards
Our structural engineers were part of the project teams for two upcoming recipients of the 2025 Paul & Nikki Tsongas Award, awarded by Preservation Massachusetts. The Tsongas Award is Preservation Massachusetts’ highest honor, honoring people and projects that have displayed the highest level of commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth.
Scituate Lighthouse Restoration
Our team worked with the Scituate Historical Society, Spencer Preservation Group, and other project partners to assess, stabilize, and restore the historic Scituate Lighthouse, originally constructed in 1811. Our team conducted an exploratory assessment of structural conditions, then provided engineering design plans, specifications, and construction administration for the historic lighthouse restoration project.
Spire Center for Performing Arts Restoration
We partnered with Spencer Preservation Group and other stakeholders to design building envelope repairs to the historic Spire Center for Performing Arts. As part of the stabilization work, the failing transept walls were completely rebuilt using engineered lumber and steel with new catenary cables tension ties spanning over the auditorium space below. The steeple structure was also repaired and reinforced by installing continuous tiedowns to lower-level framing and repairing deteriorated members.
