New MassDEP Reporting Requirement for Fleet Owners

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued a one-time rule requiring specific users to report certain characteristics of their fleet to MassDEP by March 1, 2024. The requirement is intended to gather information on medium- and heavy-duty vehicle usage in the state, in order to inform future efforts to transition toward zero-emission vehicles.

Further information about the reporting requirement can be found on MassDEP’s website. Fleet owners, businesses, municipalities and state agencies are among those potentially affected by the requirement, provided they own or operate vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of over 8,500 pounds.

In order to help these entities to better understand whether they are required to report, our Regulatory Compliance team has prepared a flyer with the reporting eligibility requirements. That flyer can be found at this link, or below in the post.
