New Apartments Weave Outdoor Amenities into a Resilient Landscape
A recent site visit to LORE Apartments in Salem, MA offered a closer look at the completed Canal Street multi-family residential development and the thoughtful outdoor spaces woven throughout the site.
Our landscape architecture team collaborated with project partners to support a design that includes an amphitheater-style gathering space, outdoor grilling areas, a shared-use roadway with overhead catenary lighting, pool and park amenities, and a wood boardwalk overlooking a wetland replication area (designed with support from our structural team).
Built on a former industrial site, the newly constructed 250-unit community supports the growing demand for housing in historic Salem while enhancing the neighborhood and wetland ecology near Rosie’s Pond. LORE provides a direct connection to the Salem Bike Path and Marblehead Rail Trail, connecting residents to downtown Salem and the MBTA commuter rail.
Located within a floodplain, the project also incorporates creative site design to provide accommodations for compensatory flood storage within our site features including the site amphitheater, meandering pocket park, and underground detention chambers below the roadway and parking areas.
