Welcoming New Talent Across Multiple Business Lines

Tighe & Bond welcomes six staff members across our Building Services, Environment, and Water Business Lines. Each of our new employees brings years of specialized expertise and leadership to our firm.

Senior Engineer Jeremy Rapoza brings more than 20 years of experience in the building services industry with him to Tighe & Bond. During his career he has been responsible for HVAC design for new construction and major renovations for K-12 schools, university classrooms and teaching laboratory buildings, municipal buildings, central utility plants with chillers and boilers, dormitories, athletic field buildings, and office buildings. Additionally, he has designed cogeneration systems which include HVAC, hot water heating, electrical power distribution and control systems. Jeremy joins our Building Services Business Line from our Westfield, Massachusetts office.

Kate Sheffield is a Senior Environmental Scientist based out of our Middletown, Connecticut office. Kate brings 18 years of experience in the environmental field including 8 years as a project manager. As an environmental scientist, Kate has worked on site investigation and remediation projects. She is well versed in the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) regulatory programs including the Property Transfer Program and Voluntary Remediation Program. During her time in the field, she has managed groundwater and soil sampling programs as well as remedial programs including excavation and in-situ injection programs. Kate has completed data collection and management, and oversight of construction and remediation activities.

Senior Project Manager Jessica Cajigas-Smith has joined our Water Business Line and will work with her colleagues in the Westwood, Massachusetts office. Cajigas-Smith has 25 years of experience in the environmental industry working in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors. She brings an extensive background in drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, environmental and hazard waste investigations, and regulatory compliance and permitting. She will take an active role in working with clients to respond to regulatory updates, such as the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) Revisions. She has been actively involved in numerous industry organizations over her career including Massachusetts Water Works Association, New England Water Works Association (former chair of the Conservation Committee and Water Resources Committee), and New England Water Environment Association (former Program Committee chair).

Senior Architect Yvonne D’Errico has twenty-six years of architectural experience, with the majority of it being in the New York City area, and her most recent being within Massachusetts.  She uses her knowledge to lead teams of Project Architects and junior staff on projects from schematic design through the construction phase. D’Errico has managed multiple ground-up construction and conversion projects consisting of mid to high-rise residential and mixed-use buildings, hotels, and commercial spaces. She is a member of the AIA and is a Registered Architect within the states of MA, CT, and NY.  She joins Tighe & Bond’s Building Services Business Line working from our Westfield, Massachusetts office.

Project Environmental Scientist Peter Backhaus, WPIT, Ph.D. joined our colleagues in the Environment Business Line in our Westwood, MA office. Backhaus has seven years of professional experience as a wetland scientist in Pennsylvania where he worked primarily on energy infrastructure projects, supporting clients in the environmental permitting process from wetland delineation and endangered species surveys through wetland mitigation and post-construction monitoring. Backhaus recently completed his Ph.D. in Geography from Penn State University where his research focused on the development of remote-based wetland functional assessment methods. He has presented at the Society of Wetland Scientists Annual Meeting and has been published by the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation.

Project Engineer Daniel Hammerberg, PE, has joined our Water Business Line and will work with his colleagues in the Westwood, Massachusetts office. Hammerberg brings six years of project experience in design of water and sewer pipeline rehabilitation and replacement, peer review services including construction observation for various public commissions and boards, and 2016 MS4 general permit assistance including mapping, stormwater investigations, and reporting. Hammerberg will use his sewer, water, and stormwater experience to take an active role working with the dam group focusing on dam rehabilitation, dam removal, and river restoration work. He is an active member of the non-profit American Whitewater where he works to protect and restore whitewater rivers in the northeast to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely.
