Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day

International Women in Engineering Day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the women at our firm whose work and expertise have made an impact for our clients, our communities, and other women in the industry.

We asked members of our team how they make a meaningful impact through their work:

Julia Bowman, EIT

I have been able to collaborate on teams with many women to take a sustainable and forward-thinking approach to designing stormwater infrastructure to provide an innovative solution to mitigate the potential effects from large rain events. Many communities have undersized drainage with minimal treatment systems to remove potential contaminants that can affect water bodies and natural resources. We have been able to identify areas of concern and design upgraded stormwater systems to mitigate these effects and improve communities throughout the Northeast.

Olivia Robillard

As a woman in engineering, I make a meaningful impact by actively contributing to designs, field coordination, and on-site problem-solving to ensure projects are successful. I bring a unique perspective as a newer engineer, identifying potential solutions that may have been overlooked on construction sites. By being visible and hands-on in the field, I aim to break stereotypes and encourage other women to see themselves in construction and engineering roles.

Amber Boles, PE

Delivering a successful project requires effective coordination, communication, and cooperation with a diverse community, and each person is navigating their own lives and challenges beyond the workplace. I recognize that people, like projects, are complex and multifaceted, and I strive to balance competing obligations with empathy and attention. By leading with compassion and respect, I help build trust, collaboration, and resilience which creates a foundation for success that uplifts our clients, communities, and the women growing alongside us in the industry.
