Confined Space Operations & Hazard Communications
Description: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has developed regulatory standards to protect workers performing operations in confined spaces. The procedures required under the confined space standard for General Industry (29 CFR 1910.146) was designed to prevent the hundreds of needless tragedies caused by workers who did not have the necessary equipment and training to work in such spaces. In the early 1980's the Occupational Safety and Health Administration addressed the issue of chemicals hazards in the workplace with a new regulation known as the hazard communication standard (29 CFR 1910.-1200) or Right To Know. This standard was designed to help workers help themselves by providing them with as much information as possible about a particular chemical's hazards. The standard specifies requirements for container labeling, safety data sheets (SDS) and training to provide employees with as much information as possible. This course will provide an understanding of confined space operations as they typically apply in industry and the HAZCOM standard as it applies in today’s globally harmonized world.
